What is YAB?

YOUTH ADVISORY

BOARD

A fancy way to say VOLUNTEER

For Young Adults in 6th - 12th Grade

What we expect from our members:

Commitment: We want reliable members. We depend on each other to make the board and our events

successful.

Participation: Every member has value. We share our ideas, plan and participate in YAB sponsored events and programs.

Promotion: We actively promote our library, YAB and

teen programs.

What we are about:

  • Teens, books and equality (we believe in making the library a safe haven for all Shelby County Teens!)
  • Planning great activities and events for teens.
  • Books, fandoms, fun, and serving our community.

Come to a meeting!

We have meetings at least twice a month, typically on Wednesdays. Can't make it for a little bit? Shoot Taylor a message to see what you missed.

How to join!

Sign and return a Shelby County Public Library Volunteer Agreement

This includes some expectations and emergency contact information. You will fill it out and sign it, your parent or guardian will sign it, and then the librarian (typically Taylor) will also sign it and then make a copy of it. One copy for you, and one copy for Taylor

Sign in & Out of our Volunteer sheet every time!

This is how Taylor tracks the number of hours our teens volunteer and how you can get your permanent nametag! After 10 hours of volunteering, we will print a new name tag with your name on it!

Policies

Please remember you are representing the library!

You are a role model, so please keep that in mind when interacting with young children.

Be friendly and kind to all children and adults.

Be helpful, not hurtful

Follow all instructions to the best of your ability.

Respect all property belonging to the library, staff members, and patrons.

You will get one warning. If we have to ask you again, you will be asked to go home.
